Occasionally I see a health program on TV about health care, and the main ingredient is yam. Chinese medicine believes that in winter, one should eat food that grows in the soil. Yam is suitable for eating in winter, and the more roots a yam has, the higher its nutritional value. The combination of yam and black sesame can replenish kidney qi while doubling the calcium supplement effect. Every winter, my family makes walnut sesame paste. I’ll try a different way and have a bowl of yam and black sesame paste. It’s thick and smooth, and reminds me of the taste of the southern black sesame paste I ate when I was a child.
